Tempuling tertusuk mata

A man has miraculously survived after he accidentally fired a 12-inch fishing speargun into his own head - somehow suffering no brain damage. Bruno Barcellos de Souza Coutinho, 34, was cleaning the weapon at his home in Petropolis, near Rio de Janeiro, when it went off in his hand. The harpoon entered his head through the corner of his left eye - penetrating almost six inches before lodging itself on the top part of the brain. Amazingly, he arrived at a hospital a full 10 hours later in a lucid state. He was immediately taken to surgery. After a four-hour procedure the object was removed without any neurological damage. Fortunately for the man, the spear was covered in some kind of tape so its barbs were not able to open and attach themselves to the skull. The surgeons were able to remove it relatively easily the same way it went in. Another operation followed the following day, but doctors were unable to save the vision to his left eye. The accident happened on Sunday and doctors at

- AP
